Re: [git] Massive slowdown in Dreadfell
ANd how many cores/CPUs do you have ?
Also are those numbers inside the zone that otehrwise lags ?

Re: [git] Massive slowdown in Dreadfell
2 cores
4 threads
In the task manager it looks like only 1 thread in each core is used by the game.
It lags in every zone, empty or not. City or dungeon.
The lag is noticeable when I do some actions with the character, like moving, using skills and so on. No lag during actions like saving game, changing game options, showing game lore.
Cheers.

Try locking the process affinity to a single core and see if things improve. Load up a command prompt, cd to your t-engine directory, execute:
or edit your shortcut target to:
Code: Select all
cmd.exe /c start "ToME" /affinity 2 "t-engine.exe"
Code: Select all
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "ToME" /affinity 2 "X:\path\to\t-engine.exe"

Re: [git] Massive slowdown in Dreadfell
The idea is very interesting.
edit:
Tried it today. There is a performance gain. I can't run professional tests but i would say its 2x faster now. But still, I'm lagging in Last Hope...
Cheers

Re: [git] Massive slowdown in Dreadfell
Ok,
I tried a different character: level 16 anorithil. The latest GIT is lagging in a empty level (cleared lev 4 old forest).
I run the same save in previous versions. Here are the results:
TOME 1.0.0 - TOME 1.04 - No performace problems (or at least none in comparison to the current situation)
TOME 1.04 latest GIT - LAAAAAG...
So something has changed in the latest version. I dont know, maybe the binaries are in debug mode or something...
Cheers

Try out this build. It's the same t-engine code built against 1.0.0RC2 libs.

Re: [git] Massive slowdown in Dreadfell
Hej Johnnyzero,
Thanks for the build. I did a quick check if the performance is any different. It seems, there is no noticable performance gain over the new libraries.
Still, TOME 1.04 works faster (on an empty old forest level about 2-3x) then the latest GIT version.
Its got to be something in the code between the last official release and the current Work in Progress version, I guess...

Re: [git] Massive slowdown in Dreadfell
Another build. DG asked me to compile one with the old luajit used in the 1.0.4 executable. Use the libraries that came with the previous build I posted.

Re: [git] Massive slowdown in Dreadfell
Hej Johnnyzero,
sadly, the new build has no affect on the performance. Still, the "vanilla" 1.04 TOME runs much faster then the latest GIT.
Is there any possibility to revert the GIT changes to a certain commit? I could check/search, which changes since the last release could have caused the performance drop.
Cheers.

Re: [git] Massive slowdown in Dreadfell
You could probably try using the new exe with a 1.0.4 install (saving will not work though) and see how it is

Re: [git] Massive slowdown in Dreadfell
The new exe is 2 - 3 times slower then the old one (from version 1.04)
I tested this on the Gates of Morning level. Probably this effect is multipied on a vault level in dreadfell for instance.
I did, what You asked me to do, used the new exe on the old 1.04 installation. The game ran considerably slower.
Then I did the opposite - used the old binary on the latest GIT version. This resulted in a performance gain, comparable to the 1.04 version.
Cheers.

Re: [git] Massive slowdown in Dreadfell
Another build with -O3. I doubt this will make a difference, as other users haven't had problems with the -O2 build, but my 1.0.1 build was compiled with -O3.
Also, please post your CPU model, graphics card, amount of memory, and operating system version.

Hej Johnnyzero,
The new build doesn't fix the performance issues.
My computer has the following configuration:
http://skinflint.co.uk/eu/lenovo-thinkp ... 24609.html
Intel Core i5 2520M, 2 cores 2,5 GHz
4GB Ram
Windows 7 professional 32bit Service pack 1
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 (IGP)
Cheers.

Yet another build to test. Old libs and my old build process, luajit2.0.2.
