Drowning bosses?

#1 Post by deadram »

Well, I started a new toon and on floor 5 of Trollmire I was strolling along after grinding out my toon to lvl4 in floor 1 and 2. About 50 or so turns in the boss had died, I knew because I had gained 3 or so levels. Later on I found his death-pile on some water. This is sort of a two part bug.

1) Why did I get the exp? I didn't even have the boss in view! In my mind, unless I've done damage (or maybe altered map tiles with a spell/item) I shouldn't get the exp.

2) Shouldn't elite class mob's try to run away from water when air is below 50%? Could do normal stuff till 75% air, 75-50% move if there's a non-water tile within 1 or 2 square, less then 50% actively start searching for a non-water tile.

Anywho, just my two cents :)

Are you complaining? Well done, As russians believed in Stalin times mind can kill at distance. Let's say you "suggested" to Boss self-drown itself. Or maybe after eat something the boss didn't wait for digestion ;)

Well, don't worry about killing bosses giving XP for 2/3 levels. In first levels that happen all time when killing first bosses but when you raise your char a bit the XP gained in killing boss will not be enough for such multiple lvl gains again as before.

But maybe don't get XP from mobs that we directly (or our creatures) didn't hit even once could be an idea to review.

Used to work that way, but it was a problem. The boss exp is a huge chunk of the exp you're supposed to get in the game. If the boss drowns and you get the exp without ever seeing him - hey, you lucked out. If the boss drowns without you ever seeing him and you don't get the exp - well, first you may miss his loot drop (which would be unfortunate) and then you ahve to figure out where to go and what to do given that you're level 3 rather than the level 6 that you're supposed to be after you've taken him down.

Well sometimes I've started in the dungeon/crypt place (forget the name) at level 1, a few times the forest, so your comment is mu :P :) At the start it's always big risks anyways, till around lvl 10-20; for me at least. I'm just thinking later levels, with badder arses... it would feel worse the cheating to me. Also it ~might~ cause me to delete a char if it lost a "guaranteed" art XD

In the long run, I just don't see how it would help a firefighter living in say Canada, to hear about a fire in Russia. At the very least, an experience giving actor shouldn't give it up until it's death pile is in the players view. Maybe move it's experience giving into only one item in it's death pile?

I dono, at the very least the ai, and water need to be looked at...

You never heard of Chaos Theory? A beat of a butterfly's wing in China can eventually trigger a hurricane in the Atlantic! ;)
Nah, being serious I kind of back you up on this!

Sirroco, thx for explain that, we kind that in that situations could again to that area in/out a couple of times to compensate. No bosses but at least some other mobs regen at least. And sometimes there nasty suprises in that Bill area.

Good point Gandolfo (or points :) ). Not a major issue really, but I'm guessing I'll play through a few times and start expecting bosses, and start preping equipment, or spells, or the likes. Just sucks to have that prep go to waste... then again, if the butterfly didn't prep in China, maybe bill would never drown ^.~ Darned rand functions should never have existed... or maybe it was that butterfly all along? XD ;)

I reckon that my english isn't the most correct and ask sorry for that. Just was trying to say that if one of earlier bosses accidentally dies and the player didn't earn that XP, player could always "recover" that lost XP remaking some times more the dungeon. Well, if again my words aren't clear, sorry.

But never mind, I realized that not only for my english barrier but another major issue (not related with forum things) that I shouldn't have the right of be here. I don't feel any more as a valid element or really a contributive player here. So, from now I cease my participation in forum/chat. However I will follow TOME as always, but not here. Last post here, and thank for all the help and patience with me.

Have great TOME runs and thanks for DarkGod made this great game. Bye all.

Scum for more xp? A bit of a boring punishment to those who miss the boss because of a bug. Of course the bug should also be fixed... But in general drowning Bill is an alternative strategy one an employ, as is killing him with traps alone (I recently did this with a rogue - it was quite satisfying).

No, don't go! Your English may not be great but you've submitted plenty of useful ideas and interesting opinions. Don't let the criticisms of others get to you - I'm sure if they tried posting in your language they wouldn't do half as well.

You may want to try posting in shorter sentences though - not as easy to screw up then.

Coffee, stay man, we all need the caffeine.

Also, you've been an awesome contributor already with over 50 posts in less than 2 weeks. That's good going. And fresh blood is needed.

Cheers coffee, I enjoyed your posts though. (and if you are coffee_cup on IRC, you should stay in there at least, you are a good contribution)

Concerning the issue, I liked this idea:

It should be enough for Bill to not auto die and it would add another tactical approach to slaying him.

But why not make him water breathe?
