Dead breeders continue to breed
Let's say I hit a breeder that has 100 hps for 200 damage... shouldn't this kill it right away? At the moment, this is not the case... I suppose the "breeding" process uses only damage to determine if a breeder can multiply and doesn't take into account its hps. This makes killing breeders almost impossible, as a dead breeder will be automatically replaced by a copy.

I think this is intentional, since it's the hit itself to cause the mitosis, regardless of the fact that the hit will kill the creature.
I'm suggesting a more realistic behavior which could help balancing things with jellies:
Upon receiving a hit, a check is made to determine if mitosis will occur. If successful, the jelly will split, resulting in two identical jellies each having half the hp (I mean both current and maximum values) of the original one, without taking damage. If the check fails, just take damage from the hit as normal.
Check could be influenced by a series of factors, like character's dexterity/cunning or weapon type (blunt weapons are more likely to squash the jelly, while blades are more likely to make it split).
I'm suggesting a more realistic behavior which could help balancing things with jellies:

Just to add some more neat complications, I just cast fireflash on a jelly, watched it split, then watched both pieces die of incineration.
