I'm not sure this is a bug per se as much as a usability issue. When assigning a weapon to my golum as an alchemist (love the class so far by the way) there are a couple of issues that I've noticed.

First, when selecting the weapon the strength required is in red even though my golum's strength meets the requirements, I believe it is looking at my strength for highlighting.

Once I select the weapon it says "Gollum is now wearing X", but X is still in my inventory with nothing to show that the gollum is using it. Will it still be using it if I destroy/drop/sell the item?

The last is more of a question, is there a way to see a character sheet for my gollum? I can look at it to get the stats but that doesn't show damage, defense and everything else. Thanks!

Ehrm, it is "just" a Golem (no offense meant to the category), let's leave the poor Smeagol alone :D In my experience, the weapon should disappear from your inventory and be replaced by the one the Golem was using previously (and yes, they are already born with a basic armor and a weapon). May it be that it was just wielding an identical weapon, and thus you didn't notice the difference?

No way at the present moment, I agree with you that it could be nice, along with a "Peek at Golem's inventory 'cause my memory often fails me" feature.

This looks like it was the case. I just had a bunch of iron battle axes (unidentified) which is what my creature was wearing.
