Apprentice mage + merchant bug

I was returning the last items to the apprentice mage, and, at the very same time, I have been given the merchant quest.
So, I had the dialog to give the items, I saw the background turn black (I entered the rogue lair) and I gave the apprentice the items.
He seemed to be happy, and he gave me a ring. He was probably very happy, because he gave me another one, and again another one, and again, and again...
Indeed I had no way to stop the dialog, and he would probably still be giving rings if I had not killed the program...
