stairs crash in beta3
2 out of the three times I have gone up stairs now in beta3, I have had a fatal crash.
Re: stairs crash in beta3
Please run it under gdb and give me the stack trace

Re: stairs crash in beta3
I know that has to do with the de-bugger, but otherwise I'm not sure what that means or how to do it. Tell me how though, and I'll be happy to.

And don't forget to download libexpat-1.dll for gdb to work properly...

We are probably dense, but Gwai and I are not sure how to "Open a command prompt inside your tome4 directory..."

Re: stairs crash in beta3
there is several ways you can do it, one is to copy the command prompt file to the directory, the other is to typemirrizin wrote:We are probably dense, but Gwai and I are not sure how to "Open a command prompt inside your tome4 directory..."
the path can be found by looking at the address bar of the tome4 directory.cd path_to_tome_directory
Also, what eliminated all of the random crashes regarding stairs for me was this file http://te4.org/dl/t-engine-fix.exe, just put that in your tome directory and run instead of the regular t4 exe, I would try this first. (I assume you are using windows because of the command prompt, if not, ignore this)

If it helps, here's a step by step in XP. Not sure how familiar you folks are with the command prompt, yeah, so sorry if it seems a bit obvious.
1. Open the start menu.
2. There should be a 'Run...' button. Click it.
3. A small window will open; in it, there'll be a box you can type into.
4. Type in 'cmd' without the quotes, and click OK.
5. The command prompt will appear. Now, type in cd, followed by the folder directory that your t-engine.exe is in; e.g. 'cd C:\Documents and Settings\Frumple\My Documents\RL\t-engine4-windows-1.0.0beta3', without the quotes.
6. Continue from step three of the 'Running ToME with GDB' article.
Vista shouldn't be much different, but I don't think the run command will be in the start menu; open up the task manager in that case and go to the file menu, then New Task (Run...), then procede from step three above. No clue about windows 7, though.

I think the command prompt is also located in the start menu under assessories.

Windows XP: Ctrl-ESC r cmd Enter
Windows Vista: Ctrl-Esc cmd Enter
I think Windows Seven is the same as Vista here.

Same thing happens to me almost every game, except it happens randomly and the game just closes. If I go into the menu and manually save the game, when the game crashes, my character is still there and it loads at the point in time that I manually saved it, even if the game auto-saved between the time I manually saved and it crashed. But if I don't manually save the game at any time then the character is gone.
I copied the last of the log from stdout.txt. The stderr.txt was empty.
I started the game and hit ">" to immediately leave and it crashed.
