Certain Enemies Always See the Player Once "Activated"

#1 Post by San0ix »

I'm sure many are aware of this, but certain enemies, like boulder throwers and uniques, always know exactly where the player is at any given moment, even if they have no way of knowing.
Is there any way to fix this? I think it's really stupid the way it seems to be right now.

Also, this is ESPECIALLY annoying if the area is blackend out by those shadow-horrors. That actually cost me a win at the two sorcerer's fight once because one of those was the first enemy to spawn from the south-west portal.

If you want to see what I'm talking about, here is a random clip from my stream, in which a unique kept chasing me by magically knowing exactly where I was at any given moment.

"once activated"

if an enemy has a AoE talent, and you just went out of sight, they will try to cast it at your last position, or as far as they can, just in case it hits.

unless you are talking about a situation, in which you TELEPORT on the other side of a particularly complicated map, and the bastard still, SOMEHOW manages to track you down, despite not having any searching skill, like track or arcane eye.

That. And throwing AoE talents at you while you are around the corner; whilst not doing that when you are not.

By "activated" I mean how they only start chasing you after they have first seen you. They are essentially only active once you have come into vision range.
Though i should note that some enemies start throwing their spells at you even before you've come into their vision range - often slaughtering many of their allies.

I remember sometimes as an alchemist, an enemy would teleport quite some distance away so I had no idea where it was and it was far from being in sight, but my golem was still targeting it, and would chase it down halfway across the map as long as I followed closely behind.

That reminds me that the "look" also does the same. When an enemy teleports away it tends to still be snapped onto the enemy if using it is the first thing you do after said enemy teleported

Note that NPC's do share information about where their targets are and that some (rare) NPC's really do have the ability to find you perfectly through walls or on the other side of the level.

The AI takes certain shortcuts that allow NPC's to more accurately guess where you are. Once they are aware of you, they usually maintain a very general idea of which direction you are in at all times.

This behavior should be improved with some major AI changes in the development pipeline (after 1.5).

Rares and bosses can usually chase you down even if you teleport across the map.

Lesser enemies seldom (never?) can. Instead, they will wander randomly until they luck into you.
