[1.4.9] unknown error let me vault multiple Eden's Guile

I was storing items in the Item Vault (since my character will no longer be usable in 1.5.0 as I understand, may as well vault everything that's of interest before that happens). Vaulted Murderblade fine then Wrap of Stone fine, but when I vaulted Eden's Guile it gave me 'unknown error'. So I tried again a few times. Then suddenly my Item Vault was full? I looked and sure enough, there are 3 copies of my Eden's Guile in there!

I thought that savefile compatibility broke each major version update. (I could be wrong, but regardless, that's why I happened to be using the item vault, and I don't plan on using this character again otherwise, so it doesn't matter if I'm wrong at this point.)
