Killed the boss in the temporal rift lumberjack village but the exit didn't spawn - now I'm stuck

Did you use some form of meteor attack?

yeah, all terrain altering effects destroy those

Yes, I used Meteor from the Crown of Burning Pain. Damn was enjoying that run.

Hum but meteor should restore the old tile afterwards thoguh, what happened exactly ?

Metero falls on the tile, BEFORE the stairs opens. Then the scorch mark is removed later, and with it the stairs.
