Spellshock/spellcraft not working properly?

#1 Post by smayonak »

I might have misunderstood how Spellcraft/Spellshock work, but it appears that Spellshocked targets maintain their normal damage resistance.

For example, using lighting bolt against a spellshocked Storm Drake (which has 100% lightning resistance) does 0 damage. It sounds to me like the spellshock mechanic is broken, but maybe I'm not understanding how it works? I've tried it against a number of monsters, including Luminous Horrors (fire), Fire Drakes, and more.

Perhaps I'm not understanding how spellshock works, but at present it seems that the only use for Spellcraft is to prevent self-inflicted damage, which would be great for Arcane Storm, but I suspect it doesn't help with that, either. Anyone have any ideas?

Its due to the way 'all' resist is added to specific type resistances. Or rather, not added but calculated separately.
1.2 X 0 is still 0.
My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.

Thanks for the reply! That doesn't sound like what a player would expect from the spellshock mechanic. Perhaps this classifies as a bug? I have not gotten past somewhere around level 35, but it seems that Spellcraft is not the most useful talent around. Even if it did bypass 20% of a target's other resistances, it must first cause a spellshock and, second, it must somehow hit in the first place.

Would it make sense for the spellshock mechanic to reduce 20% of lightning, fire, physical, etc.. resistances? Or is that somehow game-breaking?
