As described, no log I'm afraid the character died before I got around to making the report, though I don't think it's necessary, just give a ogre 5/5 Writ large and try to add an inscription (I had spent one talent point an a 4th inscription already in case that matters).

This has worked for me (and others) in the past, so yes, a saved file would generally be needed to look into this.
