[1.4.1 and earlier] Game version "%s", "No data available"

I've been having this issue for a while - I can't remember at which version it started, but it persist even in 1.4.1.

When I try to load a character from a previous version, in a newer version of the game, the game apparently can't figure out which version the game is from, and reports it as being from version "%s", as seen in this screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/1A8EDcv.jpg

When I try to pick the option "Install old data", I'm given the error message "No data available for this game version.", as seen in this screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/Qw9lIpX.jpg

EDIT: This is an issue, even with only minor version changes, such as characters from 1.4.0 being loaded into version 1.4.1.
