Thunderstorm buggy mana

#1 Post by iqualfragile »

Thunderstorm only checks if it has enought mana for a bolt once per turn, regardless of how many enemies actually are there, which leads to situations where you have enought mana for one or two bolts, so thunderstorm triggers, but then shoots 6, reduces your mana below 0, stops all sustained mana-using effects (and thereby kills your archmage).

the solution is to check the aviability of mana before each bolt-shoot, i tried that locally and it fixed it.
Do check if fatigue is getting respected, i think there was something amiss with that, but i can't remember exactly.

I don't think it cares about fatigue.
My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.

so that is for the each individual after all!?!??! with the cost rising with each lvl?!!?

ah and yes, fatigue.
fatigue only affect activations costs, sustains and "drain while active" are not affected.
but still...

7.5 mana at lvl5, and 6 hits.
thats 45 mana being drained each turn.
whats the damage? up to 100 damage in each enemy, if they are not right next to each other.
a nova takes only 12 mana, to do nearly 300 damage to all targets.
this spell is not very useful, but when it is, it... drains you completely.
i doubt many archamges have more than 200 mana (after counting in the prise of sustains) so that would drain you in 4 turns.
sure, you can perhaps clear a packed room, but in any other situation its an expansive drag.

a change would be nice.

Yes, it is for each individual bolt.

I do not think this should be changed at all, for one it has a great synergy with the storm-tree, with temperest and huricane active you cut through enemys like a knife through butter, and it works while you are stunned/in an ice-block/generally disabled. Additionally as an archmage you want spells to be as expensive as possible, thunderstorm is a fantastic mana drain.

So this is not about changing how the skill works, i would have posted that into the suggestions/ideas subforum, but about the spell draining more mana then you actually have, thereby canceling sustains.
