shadow strike doesn't work properly during the charred scar race.
well, i can activate it, but when i click on the terget, it seems like i have targetted my own tile...
when i click on the target, my character instead of jumping to it, jumps one tile to the side, and hits air.
as soon as i left the location and entered sunwell, the shadow strike works properly again.
on a side note, even if my shadow strike has range 11, it still cannot hit enemies further than 10tiles away.
on one side it makes sense since the default vision range is 10 (can be overcome with lite), but on another talents like wave of power don't seem to care much for it, and work as advertised.
shadow strike took a break.

Re: shadow strike took a break.
Teleportation doesn't work properly in the Charred Scar in order to make the race more difficult. I can't comment on how it interacts with vision range, but plenty of teleportation talents are restricted to line of sight.

i call this B*** S***.
none of the tiles say "cannot teleport to that tile", and if it is intended, it has no effect on rushes jumps and speed ups.
this rule, if its not a bug, it only affects some of the classes and not others.
if i select an enemy adjacent to me, the talent seem to be working fine, but it might have been just an RNG that put me next to him.
also, with another character i phasedoor'd 3 times in a row into lava.
and as for vision limiting the shadow strike, it has nothing to do with the charred scar.

Re: shadow strike took a break.
Maybe, but not changing teleportation would make much easier for some classes (it's only about 200 tiles, imagine skipping half that with a teleport rune from the start). Except for the undead, every class can use movement runes. Everyone can get items that allow you to leap or rush or otherwise move forward more efficiently. All of these are useful items in general, even if you're not kitting yourself specially for the Scar.
Unfair challenges are pretty well entrenched in roguelikes as a whole--ToME is rare in the number of puzzles it either announces or lets you investigate directly. It wouldn't be unreasonable for the game to give the player some warning, either on entering the zone or after the first time they teleport, but at the same time it's not a gamebreaker for a player not to beat the timer.
The exact rule in effect is that teleports will never bring you farther south. So if you can reach your target just by moving sideways, it'll probably be fine. As far as phase dooring into lava, that's just probability working against you. There's a lot of lava.
You mentioned shadow strike not working to the limits of its range. I know I've had spells act strangely when their range exceeded my vision, so I offered a hypothesis.

Re: shadow strike took a break.
so, because of 1 spell that is not even guaranteed to move you forward (unless you have maxed it), other spells are being discriminated...
they could do something like
"magic in this place is still a bit unstable, making huge jumps with it could be dangerous", and then the teleport spell is disabled.
talents that may suffer from it...
-phase door
-shadow strikes
-dream walk
-blind side
-slime root
-dark portal
-phase summon
-golem portal
-gem portal
-probability travel
-chronomancy spells
do classes that use those spells have another movement talent in their kit?
you say that its normal for rogue likes to have unfair challenges but that doesn't solve anything. it moves from one favouritism to another.

Re: shadow strike took a break.
You can do the challenge without any movement boosts.
My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.
Re: shadow strike took a break.
Just keep a set of +20% movement speed boots for this run, of which there are plenty.
