Gwai's Burninator unwearable

Title says it all, I just got Gwai's Burninator and when I try equipping it says it's "not wearable." Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Not a bug. It doesn't have to be equipped to be used.

Just carry it in your inventory and stick an icon for it on your hotbar. And then go burninate things.

It's a rod not a wand (just like the rod of recall). There are several other rods in the game (Rod of annulment, spydric..). This is what makes them good ;P
