You can block your own damage which is not technically a bug but when doing so, you debuff yourself with counterstrike.
Even worse: you debuff yourself with all the block procs (e.g. shattered mind from Demonologist / Spellblaze)
While this can be seen as not technically a bug, it's makes the demonologist self damaging talents (e.g. Acid Bath, Fearscape) pretty much unusable. Going for a tanky build, blocking, standing in your own healing acid -> all saves reduced by 90, 27% failchance, 3 rounds of counterstrike, Curse of Weakness etc....
If it's not a bug, it's imo strange for a class with self damage + block mechanics.
Which is also supposed to be able to block it's own elements easly (trough shield demons) and can get the Spectral Shield prodigy.

Re: [1.2.5] Blocking own damage -> Debuff self
In another instance of blocking your own damage being problematic, it's possible to completely block damage to the iceblock you're frozen in. This can also spring on-block effects (I saw Temporal Rift proccing Turn Back the Clock spring up a lot). With a high block value, this is also probably the only way for high level ice blocks to last their full duration without being broken.

Well why this can be problematic, it's a very special case and doesn't brake the design of a class by itself.twas Brillig wrote:In another instance of blocking your own damage being problematic, it's possible to completely block damage to the iceblock you're frozen in. Standing in your own acid while blocking is pretty much a normal situation for a Demonologist. The only special thing here is: beeing able to block acid damage, which isn't all that special. (If you got the Spectral Shield prodigy, you can not use Acid Bath anymore without debuffing yourself to hell. Same for Fearscape without beeing a demon.)

Or have any shield with +acid resistance.
I'm not crying. I'm offering a sacrifice to DarkGod in hopes he'll show favor to me.
It hasn't worked yet.

Which you can just get with a wrechtling on your shield. But that you can "fix". After you choose Spectral Shield, there is no going back.Red wrote:Or have any shield with +acid resistance.

It would be cool to get some kind of feedback on this. This is still present in 1.3.1.
Atm things like acid bath (which is supposed to help you surive) becomes a self kill in late game and the demonologist isn't the only one sufferting from this.

Re: [1.2.5] Blocking own damage -> Debuff self
that reminds of how i once nearly killed myself.
it has nothing to do with shields, but the problem was a self debuff.
to unlock the pyromancy i made an adventurer with loads of fire damage, and attacked some training dummies.
the it had like 1000 damage/turn on it, when i decided to hit myself to increase the "weapon of wrath damage" but i forgot to do 1 thing... weapon of wrath was sustained, which caused me to become a martyr (if that's the right word), which resulted in me getting HUGE damage from the burn on the dummy.
i could imagine a sun paladin hitting himself to trigger retribution to kill everything in sight... not sure why wouldn't other do it but hey. its certainly possible.
