(1.2.5) Meteoric Crash randomly targets self if within AoE

I had a Wildfire Archmage with Meteoric Crash that would occasionally become the target of his own meteors if he was within the AoE of one of his own spells (like Fireflash). Wouldn't cause any damage to my character (possibly because of Wildfire and/or Spellcraft... but still sort of a waste when I'd prefer the meteors fell on the enemies instead.
