Game hangs and flickers at 100% when loading character

When I try to load previously created character or try to create a new character, the game loads to 100% but then hangs and the screen flickers. I had about 20 hours of gameplay on this current version before this issue started happening.

Update: Apparently this is only an issue with the Steam version of the game. It may be related to a power surge and outage around the same time I was saving the game. I've downloaded the non-Steam version of the game and am not experiencing any problems with it. I don't have my characters from the steam version anymore, but at least I can still play the game.

Terminate program when it hangs, check log file for error, post error message on forums, ???, Profit.

You have two copies of the DLC being loaded.
Check the game/addons folder for any file that looks similar to 'ashes-urhrok.teaac' and delete it.
That file should only be in the DLC folder.
