[1.2.3] Black screen in Fearscape invasion portal

I entered a Fearscape invasion portal and found a vertical stripe of tiles that cause the screen to turn black and HUD to disappear when stepped on. Stepping away from that area will cause things to return to normal. The screen also turns black if I try to use scrolling mode to look around.
