When I cast Celestial/Star fury's "Starfall", the animation will end in showing a big, clumpy, pitch-black square! - Looking almost like a part of the animation is missing!
It happens more often, when I cast another spell, while the animation is still showing or when I am starting to rest or move.
Also this didn't happen to me on the beta version of 1.2.
Currently I'm playing the steam version of 1.2.

PS: I also spotted an enemy using a mindslayer talent (the big and firey explosion), ending just in the same way! (Sorry for the poor naming, I did not play mindslayer in 1.2 and don't know their talents therefore)

Post here (or on some uploader service) the file te4_log.txt that is inside the game's folder.
Even better: exit the game and then send it

PS: I did end the game before doing that! It happened on my last starfall!

I'd like to hear if you find anything out about this ... I'm seeing the same thing, after mobs do the psi attack with the explosion and from alchemist bombs. (Might be from starfall as well, but I haven't tested that yet.)

starfall and fireball explosions are the only new effects that have no out-of-shader fade-in or fade-out. so if something goes wrong they won't just fade away. but apparently they should be erased at least after their lifetime is over, so it looks like it has to do something with engine particle management, hope DG will find something.

I'm not sure if this was addressed at all in 1.2.2, but it's still causing the same issue. (Black box after the AoE of a few fire effects, namely Alchemist Bomb and the pyrokenesis attack from mindslayers and various mobs)

Just an update: Still having the same issue, and it happens with the Meteor prodigy as well.

it looks like explosion shader sometimes ends up being rendered wrong after its duration expires, but why in hell would it stay this way? every sprite has a lifetime and it should vanish after it's over.

does it happen sometimes or reliably? what's your guys' gpu? i'll also need one of you to test it rather thorougly.

I'm not very tech-savvy but the black box effect happens after every triggering of the mentioned effects and last for a second or so. The explosion effect happens, then the black boxes over the area of the graphic, then back to normal tiles.

Edit: It might just be a setting I need to adjust or something similar, but I've not seen any changes with the few things I've toggled.

Oh then it should be easy enough to debug.
Find me in skype: suslikmadskills. It may take a few hours to track down the issue. Today I most likely won't have enough time, so aim for tomorrow/day after tomorrow. Or post here if you don't have/use skype, we'll contact in irc then.
