1.1.3 Game Crashing suddenly losing save file

I was happily gaming away with my Reaver, moving from world map to the Maze. Don't think I hit enter button yet to go there. Pretty sure I was still step or two away from it when the game just dropped. I was back on desktop with no sight of the game window.
When I tried to load my game again I noticed there was no savefile whatsoever for that character, not even in the incompatible saves list.

I'm running the game on Ubuntu Linux.
