Unlocking bugs?

I'm not entirely sure if this is a bug, but I've heard that on easier mode and on Exploration mode, you aren't supposed to be able to unlock anything
I've been getting 'reports" from ToME's chat box that people have been unlocking stuff by playing on easier and/or exploration mode, including classes
does anyone know if this is working as intended?
