[1.0.4] Old Forest recreates itself, blocking Quest.

#1 Post by Snowflake »

Hi,

I've come across a bug that seems to stop me from advancing the "major plot" questline Into The Darkness. On the 1st level of the Old Forest, entering and exiting the "Intimidating Cave" (storm drakes for me) makes that 1st Forest level rePOPULATE with the exact same monsters and items it had (from some earlier point, probably first cave entry?; but not every mob it had from first entry into the Forest) and in addition all deeper levels get reCREATED, with totally new maps and monsters.

The major issue with this (for me) is that Wrathroot does not get recreated for some reason, and having seen him once (before going back to check out the cave) I have after that not seen him on at least 10+ recreates (cave enter/exit) after that, even clearing all the levels 2->4, hacking through the trees.

Something similar seems to have happened in this earlier bug report: http://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=34161 , but it had no follow up, and did not mention if the latter levels got recreated for them also.

I have no addons running.

I would rather not invalidate my character with debug modes, but if push comes to shove I guess I could use it to summon a Wrathroot - would that progress the quest for me? Also, would deleting the zone save files I have (zone-old-forest.teaz and zone-storm-dragon-cave-1988861.teaz) and re-entering from the world map help with this, and not invalidate my char?

I've attached the log file for one "load game, enter cave, exit cave" if it can shed any light to this.

Thanks,

Flaky

It's not strictly required to complete the journal quests for your tier 1 and 2 dungeons. You could jump straight to dreadfell. However, I would recommend doing all the other ones anyway, as the experience and loot offers significant help in surviving dreadfell.

I have completed all the t1 and t2 dungeons, the slavers compound, halfling complex etc., and have delved some depth into Dreadfell, but even that required me (as a new player) to just brute force into every zone I could find, as I had nothing to point me towards the "plot" being continued in Dreadfell.

Of course, I'm assuming that the quest (Into The Darkness) would have pointed me towards that tower. I'm a new player and this is my first character so I wouldn't really know.

As it stands, I've not received any quest inside Dreadfell either, though reading the lores in there paint a clear enough picture of what's going down.

(I haven't done the 2nd part of the Storming the city either, in case that would tie into this somehow.)

All this aside, it still is a bug that future newbies would appreciate not stumbling into :)

I'm not sure how you managed to find wrathroot on floor 4, not kill him, and then go back to the cave, causing the forest to respawn. But a lot of those dungeons are optional, and never listed in journal at all. (Ruined dungeon, halfling compound, slaver compound, assassin tunnels) Only ones specifically mentioned to you are the two tier 1's for your race (the other 4 aren't mentioned, but are recommended, heavily) and the four tier 2's, followed by dreadfell.

Clearing dreadfell should trip the next sequence to continue your storyline, and there shouldn't be much confusion once you get there.

Easy! I go in, get an escort, use track and soil my pants as I see a Wrathroot many levels higher than me and head for the hills.

I mean... to check if you can leave an escort quest "on hold." For science. (Turns out you can't.)

"Perfect time to poke my nose in that cave I saw earlier, perhaps gain some levels.", etc.

But thanks for your answers, I'll try my hand against Dreadfell then and see what that brings me :)
