Eidolon Protection While Alive

I was playing in adventure mode today and I had died on the exact turn that my rod of recall was finishing while I still had a few lives left. As a result, I was brought out of the dungeon without going to the 'dead' area, and now I now have eidolon protection on this character while alive. I can't be harmed at all and I can pretty much do whatever I want. I'm not sure if it was a fluke or if this is easily reproducable, but I thought I would put it up here so it can be taken care of appropriately.

If you still have a life to spare and want to get rid of it, you can suicide yourself to death, which should respawn you properly, which might get rid of the error. It usually occurs with a double-death though. (I want to point out that this is NOT a guarantee, and won't work with blood of life, only a proper trip to the eidolon plane.)

DG just finished (hopefully) fixing this, and it is an atypical method of occurence, which version did it occur in? If it's 1.0.1, it definitely creates an issue...

You know, there is a special level of Hell reserved for people who use terms like "suicide yourself to death", alongside child molesters and people who talk at the theatre.

Uhmmmm... Eidolon protection doesn't protect you from self damage, so you can still get utterly destroyed on Eidolon plane. If you have it while alive, I was told that returning to the Eidolon plane normally could fix it after you leave, but cost a life. Which is harsh if it already occurred with a double-death... Was I not clear? Was only trying to provide a solution, apologies if I offended in some way...

No, I just meant from a linguistic point of view. "Suicide" is a noun, and I'm not a fan of its increasing use as a verb (as opposed to the existing "to commit suicide"). And that stacks with "suicide to death" being a tautology to make my inner pedant take up arms and go on the warpath (and make Firefly references).

Your suggestion itself seems like a perfectly good one, and I have no comment on it.

Verbing has been a thing in the English language for a long, long time, and no tooth-grindy prescriptivism is going to change that.

Quick question: what's the recently-verbed word in this excerpt?

Thanks for sharing that with me.

I am well aware that language is constantly evolving. That is precisely why those of us who care about such things should attempt to steer the direction of its change by promoting words we like and opposing those we deem inelegant, ugly, etymologically or semantically wrong, blatantly redundant etc.

It's a bit like voting. For as long as democracies exist, there will always be elections. Many people will simply vote whichever way they like and leave the final result to work itself out, but this does not make it strange that some should campaign on behalf of a particular candidate.
