I was selling some stuff in a shop, sold something I wanted to keep, by accident, decided to save-scum and close the game. When I loaded the game again ALL the shops(and the herbalist) in derth were locked, with a cyan message that "special breathing method required", I couldn't access any of them no matter what. I could however go to elvara and access the shops there(though the same cyan message was on the shops).

I have the exact same problem, after entering the town selling my stuff I left the game afk, my screensaver started, the game crashed when I returned.
When I restarted the game and reloaded the save at the entrance to the town I could not enter any shop, could not even receive the quest from the alchemist. Same "special breathing method required" message appears over the shops.
Is there any workaround or something for this bug ?

This happens pretty frequently to people, when their game crashes.

To fix it you have to locate the save for your character and then delete the town save. Look for the folder "T-Engine", on windows 7 for me it's located at start->username->T-Engine. From there go 4.0->tome->save->name of your character, then delete the file labeled zone-town-derth.teaz. When you reenter the town, it should regenerate and fix the problem.

Thanks, too bad I already deleted the save out of frustration. It was going very well for me that time too, but now I know what to do if it happens again.
