[b42] Far East beginning bugged

#1 Post by Vanir »

I went to the Far East with my solipsist Ego and the 2 bosses you meet directly after exiting the farportal were both friendly.
I also sent this via the ingame report function since two different errors popped up twice during my interactions with them.
Both thanked me for killing the other one and after attacking the orc boss both of them became hostile to me.
Btw they didnt do anything at all before i did this so it wasnt just the alignment to me that was wrong.
After killing them both i went to the town and wasnt let in by the paladin there /=
Couldnt report that last part ingame since it wasnt exactly a bug.
My character also was not undead but i did have anti-magic. Since this is my first char with that skill i dont know if the interaction with the sun paladins would be much different.
Both also didnt drop any loot.

So any other way to get in without alienating the quest givers and merchants? ^^

Ego is the solipsist's name, I'd assume.
<Ferret> The Spellblaze was like a nuclear disaster apparently: ammo became the "real" currency.

I can confirm that the same thing happened to me with my Yeek Solipsist. Bosses were both friendly and thanked me for killing the other one. I left them alone at first and finished the level, only to find that I wasn't allowed in the Gates of Morning. Went back, killed the orc, got an error message, had the other one turn hostile, fled and went back to the city. Still barred. Went back and killed elf, got another error message, then went to city again. Still barred, so I attacked the guard and killed her. Surprisingly, no one in town seemed to care and the townsfolk even offered me quests.

As with Vanir, I had antimagic training, though I don't know if that has anything to do with the error.

Out of curiosity, how did you enter that room? A recent Cornac Berserker (without anti-magic) had problems getting in there. When I auto-explored into the room, the game froze, the screen went black after a few seconds, and I had to kill the program. The log had a couple of lines about "auto-explore canceled; chat started" repeated dozens (hundreds?) of times followed by another few lines about what seemed to be a lower level error, endlessly repeating. The save file was uncorrupted and manually walking into the room triggered the conversation properly and allowed me to continue playing.

The two occurences may be the same bug, since entering the cave is the trigger for both.

I no longer have the log, but I did keep the save. I could recreate the log and/or upload the save if that would help.

In fact, here's a log of the error. Note: this was with the 9/7 daily build with the 9/8 gitorious tarball. I tried with a more recent daily build but it spewed minimalist ui errors in the log ("bad argument #2 to 'long_desc' (number expected, got nil)") and wouldn't accept input. Ah, well.

I have a save file with this similar problem, didn't kill either boss, barred from Gates of Morning. Tell me how do I post my save file here, and I'll do that.

Was your character wearing the Inner Eye at the time or otherwise blind?

It is possible I was using the inner eye at the time that I originally encountered the NPC's; when I went back in however, this was not the case. Sadly I do not remember for sure, but I was playing around with that artifact at the time, so that is very likely.

First time in the East, telepathy all seemed a good idea, soon after discarded. Oh well.

Yes I was come to think of it. I'd been using that cap extensively from the time I found it in the West right up until I ended the character in the Far East.

Yeah, forced NPC conversations don't seem to interact properly with players who are wearing that item. Unfortunately, you probably could've saved the character if you took it off.
