[b42] arcane eye all messed up

I cast arcane eye, and my screen promptly started flickering crazily when I cast it, couldnt do anything, had to kill process.

Log has these LUA errors below about 500 times in a row:

I've reproduced this. It casts just fine any time, EXCEPT when The Shade is outside my vision and the arcane eye SHOULD see him and reveal his presence...

I get that when i try to cast it on a tile I can't see.
