[b35] Spell damage is different in Insane

#1 Post by eronarn »

I have no idea about other difficulties, but on Insane, early spellcasting monsters do more damage than they used to (or they're getting crits and this isn't displayed when it used to be, or something like that). This is quite noticeable because before you could survive a hit from them on a starting character and now you can't.

Do you mean the difficulty is too high compared to last release because spells do more damage now, or that literally the spell damage is bugged in the code, or am I missing something?

The same thing could be mirrored in normal difficulty, I mean there were a lot of changes for combat on a fundamental level.

The former - I have no idea what is causing it. However, DG said that if it's happening it's a bug.

I figure there's two ways to test this, the first by close observation within the game.

Or, if someone knows how to mod they could test this spell damage by:

Having both b34 and b35.
Creating a pc with the exact same stats in both versions
Create an npc caster with the exact same stats in both versions
Test for average damage output in normal and insane difficulty for both versions

If the avg damage of the npc seems much higher in b35, then augment the stats of the npc in the b34 version until it matches.

See if the results make sense within the overhauled power/save system.

As an aside, did you ever get "spellcracked" or "spellbroken" or whatever cross-tier effect one gets from a critical spell? It lowers all resists by 20% for 2-3 turns I believe.
