In-Game Chat Problems...

#1 Post by GodSlayerX »

Ok, so I've been having a frusterating problem with the in-game chat, it seems to randomly disconnect me pretty often, and most of the time I have to completely close and re-open the program to re-connect. Also, it will occassionally act like i've been disconnected (will stop seeing any new text in chat) for awhile (sometimes up to 10 or 15 minutes) and then out of nowhere all the text that should have appeared in chat during that time will all appear in the chat log at once, including anything I typed in chat during that time. I've been having this problem since b31 or 32. I've tried checking my Windows firewall exceptions and my anti-virus, and my connection to the internet is smooth and strong so idk if it's my PC or T-Engine. I do have another PC I could try it on but it has the same internet connection, Operating System, and antivirus as this one while only having a little Pentium 3 and 512 MB RAM.

EDIT: :? Sigh! Upon posting this thread and loading the game back up I was faced with yet another strange problem with the In-Game Chat. I logged into my char but saw no chat messages in bottom right so after a few seconds I went to the message log and the only button it had was the game log, the global, tome, tome-spoiler buttons were not there and so I could only view game messages. After exiting and re-entering the message log quite a few times I still only had access to the game log button and there had not been any chat messages in the bottom right corner of the play screen. I then saved, exited, closed and then re-loaded the program and char and now it seems to be working fine for now... These chat problems are gettin to be pretty frusterating because they keep happening at random times, often in the middle of a significant conversation :( . Of course this only determines me to find and hopefully fix the problem somehow, though any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated.

I'm experiencing problems with chat in b34 as well.
Second time this happened now:
Chat messages will appear in the right lower corner of the screen just fine. However, the chat log lags behind 1 or 2 minutes. No idea what triggers it.

I'm having issues with the chat popping up something someone said, and then it never appearing in the log. There's also some long lag at times between when someone said something and when it's in the log.

If someone 'says' something longer than 1 line length (vs. size of the log window) then it can mess up the scrolling of the log screen and subsequent chat lines are 'below' the bottom of the log screen. So you don't see lines turn up in the log until someone says something else (or logs in/out etc). I'm not sure if this problem compounds with itself but if you have multiple lines longer than the log screen's width right after each other, it could be making the issue worse. I have a fairly high resolution so it only happens rarely (but enough to notice) - if you're on a screen resolution with width <1024px then I can imagine it'd be even more common.

Btw... It would be really awesome if the chat screen would 'populate' with say the last 20-50 lines of chat from the server (or at least from a local history) - I know ToME isn't a chat client but I think many players would appreciate this? :)

Edit: and while we're asking for stuff... Timestamps? ;)
