[b28] Display bug on Ubuntu

#1 Post by fearoffours »

The display flickers up to several times a second, seemingly irregularly but constantly. when running T4 at any resolution on my old Ubuntu 10.10 powered laptop. It has minimal graphic abilities, so I'm willing to accept that this is just the way ToME plays on it, but I thought it would be worth posting a bug report here in case others experience it now, or in the future.

I have tried most combinations of in game graphic/video options (reducing frame rate, disabling advanced graphics options). But the problem persists.
I recorded a video of the behaviour:

If anything, the flickering is more noticeable in real life.

Playing on Vista here. I get this "flickering" (forced entire screen redraw?) whenever something with a particle effect shield enters my FOV for the first time, without another one already in sight. Master vamps seem the most common cause of this. If my alchie gets somewhere with master vamps (or hell, even adventurers with hymns/chants going) I'll try to remember to see what my log says about them.
Having satellite internet is a lot like relying on the processes described in those RFC's for your internet. Except, instead of needing to worry about statues interrupting your connection, this time you worry about the weather. I have satellite internet. Fun, no?

I play on ubuntu (32 bit) and I do not have that problem. This would suggest it is related to your computer or drivers.

At the very least enable proprietary drivers in
System setting > (hardware) additional drivers

That is all i could think of, sry

proprietary drivers already enabled, thanks though :)

@Hedrachi, the flickering effect appears unrelated to particle effects on this machine.

oic. From the way your game flickers I'd say tome might be trying to redraw at 59Hz on a 60Hz monitor or something to that effect (attempting to redraw at close to what it's supposed to), so it might be drivers, might be something weird in the game. -might- be worthwhile to try reference drivers if possible, otherwise you could try a google search for '(laptop model) ubuntu meerkat flickering problem' and see what pops up for other apps. I remember my last laptop and getting 6.10 to work on it. Was a royal pain fiddling with drivers, so fair warning. Heh.

Also, I apologise for not looking at the video. Living with satellite intarwebs has taught me that youtube vids longer than 30s get buffering problems quickly, which is rather... irritating.
