Resurrection bug in sandworm lair

#1 Post by aberk »

Help! My Wyrmic just died in the sand worm lair due to tunnel collapse. He resurrected in the corner of the map and cannot move, recall, or do anything else. Can anyone fix the file? I have spent two weeks on this character and do not want to lose him. If this is fixable, please instruct me on what to upload as the character folder is too big.

Can you be more specific? The character cannot do anything because the game doesn't let you, or you don't have the options [no wands of teleport, ect] to escape before suffication, or some other means of 'unable to proceed'?

Sure. My character died when a sand tunnel collapse on him. Upon resurrection, he seemed to reappear on the same tile, though I cannot say for sure because there was no @ or green square. I tried to click on the map to make something happen, and suddenly the screen jumped to the top left corner of the map. There is a lighted area there and my character should be at the center, but there is no @ or green square. The area is also completely covered in sand. I cannot move, though I can still see worm digging tunnels on the screen at a very fast pace. I activated my rod of recall, but I cannot make the counter go down. I also cannot die. What is going on?

Is the game playing rapidly without you doing anything?

If not - then this is an 'old' res bug that is exclusive to the Sandworm Lair. Unfortunately, I am unaware of a reliable fix if this is the case.

If the game *is* playing rapidly without your imput, then this is something new...

The game IS playing rapidly without my input. I am happy that I found something new, but I would really like my character back. Is there a way to make this possible?

Good catch aberk. The problem is that the eidolon_exit function uses util.findFreeGrid to place the player (and all party members) on a free space. Usually this is fine, but the SWL is a particularly poor place for this check. Simply upping the radius given to util.findFreeGrid should suffice in the short term. Your current savegame is a problem, though... time is passing since your player character was never added back to the level and thus you never pause the game when it is your turn. If you are particularly attached to that save DG may be able to do something about it.

I am particularly attached to that save as I work full time and it took me two weeks to get where I am. How do I send it to DG?

By the way, thanks for a great game. Though I have not been an active poster until now, I have been playing since Pern was a very buggy offshoot of Zangband. Tome 4 has all the features I always wanted (except riding, paired weapons also needs a little work) and I admire all the free work that you guys do. I'm sad that I might have lost my character, but I am honored to make a small contribution to a great game.

Can I also send you my character so that you can fix back to? The folder is too big to post on the board. How should I send it to you?
