Heart of the Gloom?

Heart of the Gloom?
Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm really new tot he game. I've cleared out the three levels of the forest. I've killed the bear dude and even though it seems like I've cleared all of the levels, the second onjective still seems to be active. Am I missing anything? Auto-explore doesn't seem to find anything and only takes me back to the second area.
Re: Heart of the Gloom?
use the rod of recall from the boss to get to world map.
alternatively, walk down the stairs from level 3 to 2 then 2 to 1 then 1 to worldmap but there is no reason for this :p

I write guides and make addons too now, apparently
You can go here for a compilation of everything I wrote, plus some other important stuff!
Includes general guides (inscriptions, zone, prodigies), and class guides (Demo, Anorithil, Bulwark, Zerker, Sblade)

Edd,
ToME is a little quirky. Its all organized to let you get to it quickly.
Nearly all of the zones start as icons on the world map. Once you enter, there
will generally be 3 to 5 levels and a boss at the end. Clear all levels
completely (see caveat). Kill the boss and hit Rod of Recall. Its the way the
game is designed to be played.
If you are playing at Normal, then auto-explore is a neat feature. It lets you
zip around w/o much effort and will seldom get you into a bad spot. It will
visit every spot on the map and then finally deposit you on the entrance to
the next level. Unless its the last level, then it will put you on the return
stairs.
On Nightmare, its a little dicey. On Insane is Russian Roulette. On Madness,
its suicide.
But on Normal and for clearing up, its really nice. It will park you outside
of Vaults and Chests. If you don't want to do a certain thing, step away and
Auto-ex again. Auto-ex knows you don't want that one.
Caveat. There are three kinds of extras that frequently appear. Chests,
Digestive Sacks and Vaults.
Never open digestive sacks.
Open chests once you feel comfortable. When in doubt run and run like you mean
it.
Vaults, it depends. Some of them in certain areas are much much more dangerous
than others. You'll have to learn for yourself.
Why no love for the digestive sack? Simple. Risk reward. The chance that you
will get anything useful is very small. The chance that the thing inside will
kill you is very large. By the time you are ready to challenge this point, you
will know that you are ready.

Very short intro to ToME.
Complete the zone you start in. There will generally also be another zone
nearby once you return to the world map. Do that one. Go to Derth and talk to
the shady guy. Then run all the way across the continent and run around in the
cornfields until someone tells you something. Deal with that. Do the rest of
the T1's. Derth will have some trouble with the Weather. Do the T2's. I always
do the Sandworm Lair first, because its the best bargain. But its a newbie
killer until you learn its ways. The Maze or The Old Forest are more
accessible. Diakara can also be a newbie killer. You will want to make your
decision about anti-magic at this point. Either Angolwen or Zigur. Red wine or
white wine, they don't mix. Many classes only have one choice. Which ever you
choose its going to lead to a fight w/ a heavy duty mage. You will want to be
above clvl 20 before and you will want to have a way to clear magical
statuses. Next stop (for me) is the Ancient Halfling ruins, which I call
Dreadfall light. There is a special fight at the bottom behind a sealed door.
Don't go in there. Come back once you've gained 10 or more c-levels. The guy
inside needs to be wasted quickly and there's no way you can do it because
he's matched to your current level. Return to the surface and if you at or
over clvl 24, you are going to get a nice surprise. Hope you have some Blight
resist gear. And See Invisible.
At this point you are ready to hit Dreadfall and fight the Master.
There's a bit of stuff that I left out on purpose. This is (nearly) spoiler
free, bare bones thing to help reduce the complexity of getting started. If
you see something interesting and you have the min level to enter, go for it.

Re: Heart of the Gloom?
One thing that hasn't been mentionned, sometimes the quest state for this seems to bug out, happens rather often actually. There's no benefit to clearing the quest it's just there as a guideline for new players I think. Check the zone order guide if you're not sure where to go next or just follow the min level requirements on the dungeons, starting by the lower stuff first and clearing as you go.Eddicus42 wrote:Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm really new tot he game.
