Online profile disabled due to invalid module hash

#1 Post by Bleevoe »

I just got 1.4 installed, but I want to continue playing my character from 1.3.3. When first loading my old save, I was prompted whether I wanted to download the old version of the game to play my old save. I accepted.

Now, whenever I load my old save, I get the following warning:
Online profile disabled(switching to offline profile) due to invalid module hash.
What are the implications of this? Does it e.g. affect achievements in any way? Can I fix it (without abandoning Steam)?

the only difference between online and offline, is the chat, and the ability to share achivements with other computers, wherever you login.
aside from that, they are identical. (speaking without coding knowledge)
you can think of offline, as a backup, in case you lose connection.

offline and online update each other whenever they can. losing online, just means that you will not be able to carry your NEW achievements to another computer. but the ones that were already there will not be deleted, just waiting there until connection can be re established.

as for "invalid module hash", i have no idea.

Thank you.

So, is it somehow possible for me to push achievements to Steam from this character (using the Steam tab on te4.org)? If I use the Steam client, I can't get online connectivity with this character. So I thought I'd try using the stand-alone client for 1.3.3 instead, but I can't figure out how to login to my Steam account on the standalone client. Is that possible? Or any other ideas on how I can push achievements with this character?

steam? uhm... have you purchased it on steam, or are you trying to connect with a version downloaded from the main site?
you need a tome account to connect with the game, and tome account is not the same as steam account, through they can be connected. are your accounts connected?

i am not a steam user so if that's the problem, i will not be able to help much further than that.

Yes, I have purchased it on Steam. I normally connect via Steam, but am currently also experimenting with the client from the main site.

I think my ToME account and my Steam account are one and the same. I seem unable to login with this account in the regular client (incorrect username/password). Is that supposed to be possible?

yeah, that's what i was saying, they are not one and the same, as far as I've caught on the forum.
unfortunately, i do not know how to... "synchronise" them to let you do that.

though, i may be wrong anyway.

Ah, I must have messed something up, because now I managed to login on the regular client with my account. I also managed to push achievements to Steam. So all significant issues seem to be resolved. Thank you.

You need to link your steam account to your Te4 account. They aren't automatically connected.

I had a problem due to the fact that the two accounts weren't linked... everything but one thing was working.

Anyway, this is the link you need to link the two accounts:

(oops that link was for me only so I removed it).

If you go to your account on te4 there is a tab for steam and if you go there you can link the accounts.

That solved my problem, and it might help you.

Yes Guurt, that is what I used to push achievements to Steam.

However, it turns out that every thing was not as well as I previously thought. I tried to continue playing on this character in the standalone 1.3.3 client, and that seemed to work fine. Until I tried to push my newly earned achievement to Steam by logging in via the Steam client. Then my save file for this character reverted back to the start of this debacle, and also seems to have become more or less corrupted (e.g. fog of war has reset). Same thing when I login via the standalone client.

So unless I can get further assistance, I consider this character lost. While I am not overly concerned by the loss of this character, I find it very disheartening that this may happen whenever a patch is released. Can my save be salvaged? What measures can I take to prevent this from happening again to another character (short of abandoning Steam)?

Don't enable steam cloud saves, it tends to revert your save.
As for abandoning your character, are you only playing this game to collect Steam Achievements? Even if you are, continuing this character will help you play better on future characters.
My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.

I do not only play to collect Steam achievements, but I consider it a vital part of the game. Also, at this point it is not just the achievements that are the issue, as the save file has become corrupt to a certain extent.

Steam Cloud was indeed probably part of the problem, thank you. Things may have turned out better had I disabled it before mixing clients.
