Missed elixir ingredients
I'm probably going to be making a lot of threads here for some time...
I picked up the Brotherhood of Alchemy quest from Ungrol (last hope guy), and opted to make the Elixir of Foundations.
He asked for, among other things, a vampire lord fang.
That character died early in the Far East, with no sign of a fang up til that point. The wiki says they can be found in the Ruined Dungeon or Dreadfell. I cleared both, and made absolutely certain to wreck all golden chests and vaults. Alas, despite laying waste to both areas, no fang was to be found. Apparently adventuring parties can also drop random ingredients, but as a Ziguranth follower, I never saw a hostile party, ever.
Is it possible to completely miss out on an ingredient? If so, should I abandon the elixir in question and attempt a different one instead?

Re: Missed elixir ingredients
Seems strange that you wouldn't get it in Dreadfell.
The Ruined Dungeon thing involves intentionally using the wrong orb to spawn enemies until you get the enemy you want. Pretty much anything can spawn there, so it's useful to farm ingredients if you want a specific potion badly.

Re: Missed elixir ingredients
The most difficult ingridients to obtain in Maj'Eyal are bone giant dust for non-undead and various wyrm parts (and Daikara boss for some reason doesn't give that part upon defeat). As I understand, you have some chance to get a wyrm in Dreadfell vaults and that's it. Do wyrms also can spawn in Ruined Dungeon? What about bone giants?
Re: Missed elixir ingredients
I'm sure one will turn up eventually.
The wiki doesn't list all places a vampire lord can spawn, because that is technically anywhere.

Re: Missed elixir ingredients
Don't adventurer parties drop random ingredients?
Addons: Arcane Blade Tweaks, Fallen Race, Monk Class, Weapons Pack
Currently working on Elementals. It's a big project, so any help would be appreciated.

Re: Missed elixir ingredients
Wyrms can definitely spawn in Ruined Dungeon.
Bone Giants often spawn in the Ruined Halfling Complex and Celia's Crypt.

Re: Missed elixir ingredients
I've made about four serious characters now, but have yet to complete even a single elixir.
This time, foundations is asking for a ritch stinger. I actually noticed that some rare enemies were capable of summing Ritch Flamespitters, so I tried goading them into summoning as many as possible, but no luck after a couple dozens of those kills. I guess summoned enemies (or flamespitters, at least) can't drop ingredients.
Focus wants an ice wyrm tooth, which I haven't obtained after clearing Daikara. I thought ingredient were 100%, and this one was dropped by the boss of the area?
Like last time, I haven't seen a hostile adventuring party since going antimagic. I guess I have to give up on the elixirs this time around, too?

Re: Missed elixir ingredients
If elixirs were important it would be more of an issue, but alas, they aren't. So don't worry.
A little bit of a starters guide written by yours truly here.
Re: Missed elixir ingredients
It can easily happen that you will complete an elixir quest only after going to the east for the second time. You can then briefly come back to the west to pick up your reward. For example, you will reliably get ritch stingers in Eruan, which you will only do on your second visit to the east. Similarly, one of the orc prides usually has wyrms of various kinds.Tryble wrote:I've made about four serious characters now, but have yet to complete even a single elixir.

Adventuring parties are unconnected to Ziguranth, they are simply rarer. I would never farm them for ingredients though, since they can be pretty dangerous.
Anyway, four characters means you are only just getting started with this game

Let's just say you have got a few more of those "serious characters" ahead of you!
Re: Missed elixir ingredients
if you are desperate, there is an addon that adds traveling merchants who can sell ingredients.
i think its this one.

Re: Missed elixir ingredients
Well, four characters is how long it took to net my first win, so I guess it isn't THAT short a timeframeMajestix wrote:Anyway, four characters means you are only just getting started with this gameFour characters, jeez, that's like a 6 year old saying "I have been around for 6 years, and I still don't have a job".

That character did eventually complete those elixir quests, somewhere around Lv30. The missed Ice wyrm tooth was recovered in a farportal. Farportals are great.
? farportal
I was just kinda frustrated since, as a new player, picking up a couple of extra skill/generic points would have been a big help to cover poor skill choices due to unfamiliarity with the game, but I could never get my hands on the final ingredient.
At least I now know firsthand that if you can tough it out for a while, you can eventually recover most items via farportal, at the least. Since there's a (reasonably) reliable method in game to find pretty much any ingredient, I will probably forgo using the addon to just buy them outright.

Re: Missed elixir ingredients
Don't be silly. As a new player, a few more points are just going to be assigned into random stuff that may or may not be useful.

Re: Missed elixir ingredients
Now here is related question. Where have people seen luminous horrors? I got alternative Lake Nur, so all sorts of horrors there, but no luminous ones. And in Dreadfell I was expecting to find some lava vault with those beasts, but no such "luck". I don't think I have ever seen any in the east. Do they appear there? Or maybe in the Elven Ruins? *gulp*
Re: Missed elixir ingredients
elven ruins are full of undead, animated bandages, and mummies. maybe also a critter here and there, but no horrors as far as i remember.
Re: Missed elixir ingredients
Luminous horrors are kind of a random spawn. They typically show up in Lake of Nur 2 (normal layout), but beyond that I don't know of any common spawn locations. Ruined Dungeon and Dreadfell vaults are probably your best bet there.
