Using Shalore's Secrets of the Eternals Invis

#1 Post by zemdu »

Any tips on tactical usage of Shalore's Secrets of the Eternals (makes you go invis if you take 10%+ of hp in damage)?

The first few times it happened to me I thought it was a debuff but then after looking through the list noticed that it's actually a buff! Should you leave it on? Cancel it? Does it actually provide good defense?

Right now I'm playing as a Shalore Bulwark, but I'm interested in it's usage as any class also.

Thanks!

as far as i know, the only thing it does is makes you "invisible", but that can be easily overcome with some abilities or simply "invis detect power"
and before you say "oh so its like stealth but better because making an attack doesn't reveal you"... well, all damage you deal while invisible are reduced by 70% or so i read.
I don't know the code, so it may be misworded, but that's how it looks. if you side with the assassin lord, you will unlock a prodigy that reduce the debuf to 35%.

I am sure it has a tactical use, but if you didn't know of the invisibility by now, then most likely you are not ready to experiment with it.

I guess I'll just have to experiment with it. I've played stealth characters quite a bit and stealth is pretty simple in that you know if you have been detected or not... but invisibility seems a little different. Is there a way to know if the enemy has detected you or not? Because if they have you may as well cancel the buff to get your damage back.

This is something I've been meaning to play with recently. I noticed the other day that Secrets of the Eternals does *not* have a damage reduction! (Haven't checked the code to verify, but it I tried it quite a lot). On the other hand, in order to be invisible, you have to have your light source turned off. I've never been sure if that means that you can't have anything in your light slot, or if certain items are OK.

Since you can't plan to use Secrets of the Eternals, it means never having a light source, which is a pretty big penalty. If you were already going for an infravision build, then it might be doable, but I've never gotten around to trying it. Basically, as far as I can tell, in normal play it is completely useless for this reason ;-)

Surely the invisibility magic hides your light too.

A quick look in the code shows nothing for checking for a light source with regard to stealth or invisibility.

http://te4.org/wiki/Invisibility_(talent) seems to imply that you should take off your light source. Of course, it also has the 70% reduction in damage which I didn't see with Secrets of the Eternals.

Now I really need to take a look at the source  I have to admit that occasionally I have seen invisible monsters with the tile that they are standing on lit.

Secrets of the Eternals also doesn't drain 2 mana per turn. :P

Maybe you could create a build around doing >10% hp damage to yourself to be permanently invis with secrets of the eternals.... hmmmm...

vile transplant "transplant up to x magical or physical detrimental effects from yourself to your target, taking x% of your max hp per status effect and healing the target for the same ammount"

I'll admit, I don't really know so:

What ARE the benefits of Secrets of the Eternal? What does that invis power do for you? I've never put more than a point in it on the way to timeless, since I couldn't really quantify its value to any build.

if you blind someone, you can see them shooting everywhere, in the general direction rather than right at you.
or with melee enemies, they start dancing around you, only sometimes getting a hit.

with invisibility, instead of making your target have problem seeing anything, you make yourself difficult to be seen.
if enemy don't have high enough invis detect power, they will act as if they were blind.
