What does telepathy do?

What does telepathy do?

Some items say they give telepathy for certain creature types--what is the effect of this?

Ah its under VISION. I searched for "Telepathy" and didn't see anything that looked promising. (Looking again, its the 8th match on the wiki; I apparently am bad at picking that out :) )
