Steam sync

#1 Post by Call »

Hi folks,

Had a few questions about the Steam sync, please. (I used to just use Dropbox for syncing games...)

1. Does it sync the file that has all my unlocks?

2. Does it sync across platform? I usually play on a Mac but just got a cheap Windows tablet that I would like to try.

3. Answered this myself: does it sync the add ons? The short answer seems to be yes, it will install the same add ons when you install steam on another computer.

I don't want to test #1 and 2 because I am afraid to lose my save games and progress. It's not clear to me either where the files with this information is so I can't back it up. There seem to be several places.

Thanks!

Currently it's recommended to disable Steam sync because it sometimes causes save files to get screwed up.

Well that would be bad!

Silly question then: how?

Thanks for the prompt reply.

If you mean how to disable it, right click on the game in your steam library, go to properties, then the update tab. Uncheck the steam cloud option.

If you mean how can it mess things up - I've seen all kinds of weirdness that I can't prove is due to borked cloud syncing but highly suspect. Things like certain floors being regenerated (sometimes causing the boss to not be there), saves being evenly or unevenly rolled back, etc. Basically parts of data missing or bits being improperly restored.

<astralInferno> you suffer so that others may suffer in the intended way
