Why does the steam version cost money?
The version on the website appears to be free, but the steam version costs money. Why?

The Steam version is just the donator version, that's all. You can still download the game for free at te4.org.
And it was such a good idea...

The steam version comes with all donor features unlocked. The entire game is playable, the parts behind a paywall are one extra class (out of like 20+), an item vault that lets you share items between characters, and some cosmetic stuff like extra character tiles.florodude wrote:The version on the website appears to be free, but the steam version costs money. If you like the free version though and use steam I would suggest dropping the $5 on it just to support Darkgod. He's put a lot of time and energy into this game and certainly deserves the financial support.
If you don't use steam and still want the donation features you can use the te4 site to donate too.
Anyway, I hope that answered your questions. Happy gaming.

So if I purchased this game on steam, I should automatically have the Donator features, right? Because I'm not seeing the Stone Warden, and I've never seen an Item Vault (though god I wish I had). I do see alternate starting icons available though.

Stone Wardens only show up under the Wilders category after selecting Dwarf. If you haven't unlocked Summoner or Wyrmic, they might not be visible. The Item Vault is found after clearing an optional dungeon after the Old Forest.
