methods for beating the grand corruptor?

#1 Post by anathema »

Just wondering how you guys deal with the grand corruptor. The reason i ask is because my last 2 characters have both been really strong, but both died once to the grand corruptor, both times in the fearscape. Both times i killed the corruptor pretty easily after coming back to life.

I'd test a few strategies myself, but its not the most easy circumstance to reproduce i'd afraid :)

You know you're going to be on fire, and you know you're going to need to move fast. A method of dealing with both (fire resist + shield or regen) plus a method for moving quickly into position are absolute minimum requirements for trying him. The other factor is the ability to inflict significant burst damage.

i must be underestimating the fire damage, and like i said i am only really having trouble after entering the fearscape, so i'm sure you're right. how significant is the fire damage? i wish i could go back to check the combat log :(

Fearscape is only range 7, so if you have a range 10 attack you can just snipe the grand corruptor and retreat without ever getting fearscaped.

If you want to be cheesy, lure him near some corrosive worms and teleport away. They're not part of his faction, so they'll attack him. And he sucks at fighting them, so he'll die.

I had trouble killing him in Fearscape even on a 38 level Wyrmic (I didn't have "on hit" effects for bone shield, he healed and my build is kind of sucky). That was until I realized that my wyrmic can outheal his fearscape (and the occasional spells he hit my character with) :D. So just ran around corners until he couldn't sustain fearscape any longer.

Not the strategy I would recommend to anyone, though.

Fearscape is also a buff he puts upon himself when you enter. If you have gauntlets of dispersion or the actual spell, dispersion, you can simply wipe it off him and get ported out.

If you are antimagic, silence him.

If you have rush, rush him, then stun him. If the daze or stun don't work cause his bone shield is still up, equip lots of "on hit damage" items. Each of them is a separate instance of damage, and will knock his bone shield off almost immediately.

Did I mention silence? :P

It's a funny thing, I never have troubles with him. Usually though I'm doing the place when I return from the east around level 36 or so.
Just a while ago he Fearscaped my Bully from behind a tree. In Fearscape it's just Rush or other gap closer, then some multihit thing, in my case the Destala cloak activation to get Bone Shield down. Then just Overpower or Assault or whatever, he's frail.

Well, at 36 level you shouldn't have any problems with him. Given that I've gotten something like tier-2 artifacts in there it is probably aimed for much lower xp level characters (for he is really deadly).

Anyways, the exp in there is not that spectacular and neither is the loot (only few enemies and low level) so there isn't much incentive to do this place until you are way overleveled.

He is aimed for lvl ~25 or less IMO.

I wasn't saying it to say he's easy when overleveled. I just mentioned I often don't bother doing him too early myself because the reward ain't worth it. Most of the time I just do it for better end game outcome.
Then I shed some light on how one could deal with him when melee.

I think the problem with him is he's really boring. Make him give some addition to your fortress when dealt with and people might start getting interested in doing him and start respecting him as opponent instead of thinking him as meaningless side boss (except for Defiler classes).
