Switching Infusions/Runes

Okay. I've played this game on and off for over a decade so I can't believe I'm asking this but after many years of not playing I came back and can't inscribe new infusions/runes.

Here's what happens. I try to use the new one. The message box for the old inscriptions comes up. I click the one I want to replace. The old one I want to replace activates and the new one I wanted to inscribe is completely gone from my inventory.

I'm 99% sure that it thinks I want to inscribe the old one and treats the new one as the already inscribed one because of how this is playing out. I could try making a video to show if this isn't clear. I've even tried adding it to my hotkey bar before use to watch what is happening. The infusion disappears from the hotkey bar and when I click where it used to be it says something like "you do not have healing infusion of the wizard" (or whatever the new one was called).

Does anyone have any idea of what's going on? I fully downloaded the Linux client version so I could play on a game with no Steam add-ons or overlay or anything in case it was that, and it's still happening. Is there a setting I've accidentally clicked that I can undo? I'm about to enter Tier 3 dungeons on this new character and it's a little crazy that I'm still using the starter inscriptions.
