Okay... so once you start suffocating, you lose life. Got it.
But then if you gain air, you continue losing life. When does it stop? At max air? I've managed to get back up to 90% and it still didn't stop. That's brutal. There's almost no way to recover air fast enough for that. Shouldn't the damage decrease as your air supply increases so then at least the rate of death slows down?
Or is there some mechanic I'm not understanding? Is there a way to prevent suffocation damage?

Re: Suffocating...
I believe there are two components here: The collapse damage and then suffocation damage. The collapse damage is one time damage (unless you are trying to run ahead of collapsing tunnel and get hit each step). I believe the suffocation damage ticks each round you have that state even if gaining air by another mechanism like a tinker air recycler. I think the concept is sound as you are totally buried/compressed and can't take a breath. The easiest way to counter this is get an item of 'unlife.' When you have this (or are playing as a skeleton) you don't need to breathe and you only take the one hit of damage from the collapse and can just sit there and wait for the next sandworm to come by and dig you out. Note waterbreathing does not protect you from this only unlife.
Re: Suffocating...
I am aware of how to prevent it and while I appreciate the response, it doesn't really answer my question. What I'm trying to figure out is: when does this damage stop? Is it permanent or does it stop after "x" turns or "x" damage or when you finally get back to 100% air?
Re: Suffocating...
The damage stops as soon the suffocation stops. If you are buried in sand as soon as you get out of the sand. If under water as soon as you get any air.
Re: Suffocating...
That's can't be true. I just had a character start drowning and then immediately get air and the drowning didn't stop until he died.
It was in Lake Nur. I stepped on air bubbles, confirmed that I had air but the damage keep coming and he died. So I tried it again to test and the same thing happened.
Is it a bug?

Re: Suffocating...
It used to be a bug for quite a while. I am unsure if it was fixed.
My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.
Re: Suffocating...
Just tested and confirmed. Definitely feels like a bug. Could have sworn it behaved differently before.
Re: Suffocating...
Okay... bug it is.
Thanks all.
Thanks all.
