Critical question

#1 Post by Skiamach »

So, I was planning a Sun Paladin build and thinking about critical chance but realized I was not sure what type of criticals some of the class's talents use. My question is: if a talent is listed as a spell, but does weapon damage, does it use the spell critical chance or the physical critical chance? I had assumed that a talent described as a spell must use spell critical chance, but then I thought the talents still use accuracy vs defense to hit, so maybe it is a physical crit chance and so doubted my assumption.

You've got a bit of both on sun paladin, but most of the big hitters are phys crit.
Anyway there's really no reason to invest much in crit, with a few autocrit talents and no crit multiplier talents. You're better off pumping dex instead of cunning imo.

To be more specific, I am asking: do the attack talents in the in the Celestial/Combat, Celestial/Guardian, and Celestial/Crusader trees use physical crits or spell crits? I am curious about their interaction with the Eye of the Tiger prodigy.

If it uses a weapon attack, its likely a phys crit.
If it isn't, it should really say so.

Since they are weapon attacks, they use the crit chance on your weapon which is based on your phys crit.
In terms of Eye of the Tiger interaction I'm convinced they'll count as phys crit, so they won't reduce cd on any of your spells, just your attack techniques.

So, I looked at the code for Eye of the Tiger, and didn't really understand it. But it may look at the type of talent that triggered the crit rather then the type of crit itself. I will test it soon (hopefully, I am not a good player, I think the game requires a level of patience and discipline that I don't really have) and post the results. If anyone knows offhand whether or not this is the case let me know. So I guess my question was really about Eye of the Tiger.

Nope, its the type of Crit that decides which talents are eligible for the cooldown reduction.
It would happily decrease the cooldown on a Celestial category talent if you had a Cursed talent that used Spell Crit.
