a few dumb lore questions (spoilers i guess)

#1 Post by kyuubee »

who is artelia firstborn from 'memories of artelia firstborn'? what race is she? weissi? is she still alive somewhere? looks like she was a humanoid

a really dumb question, but if the apprentice mage is in fact archmage talerion, does it mean that if you give apprentice mage the staff of absorption you kill the archmage tarelion? it's a pity we can't visit angolwen in that case and check, but it should be the case

now, i guess the lore has no answer, but why haven't linaniil gave humans immortality like aranion did? looks like she wanted to be the only immortal human in existence... i wonder if other mages who clearly might read shaloren chronicles hate her for that

Being one of the Creation Myths, the Memories of Artelia Firstborn are likely partly wrong.
However, it is extremely likely that she was one of the original Elves of the world. There are two clear hints to this.
1: They called themselves the Alore? Which is very similar to Loren, the modern elvish word for Elves.
2: Artelia is one of the possible names for a Thaloren.
She is very likely dead.

Apprentice Mage + Staff of Absorption: I wouldn't assume he only has one trick. He's deceived your eyes before, he might do it again.

Giving Humans immortality is not something that would help Linaniil achieve her goals, and could work against what she wants to achieve. Why would she do that?

i see, thanks
apparently the original elves lived longer than other, non-magically-enhanced elves then

yeah, but what would be his reason to let you keep the staff of absorption when you offered it to him seemingly not even knowing its true value...

well, maybe she wants to be an everlasting leader of the city of mages, but that her decision clearly would create a serious tension in angolwen and possibly would cause the common folk to hate mages even more if they ever know. since it's not a secret lore, a lot of mages might know that aranion and linaniil got the same kind of power but used it very differently, if i know something about the human nature it's that nobody wants to grow old and die, being denied of the eternal life of shaloren, human mages (who are already prone to seeking lichdom) would be very mad at linaniil unless she somehow justified her actions

on a side note i am pretty sure that there have to be tensions between highers and cornacs

I don't think its that people don't want to grow old and die. I think its more that people want to keep living.
Linaniil might technically be alive and be much older than humans normally live to, but what did she give up to achieve that?
Her Life.

She has no family. She stopped her relationship with someone she clearly liked and trusted. (And you can't just say its because he's dead, since he isn't.)
And she now spends all her time hidden in a mountain village teaching people magic, even though it isn't doing the world much good (Many graduates appear to be up to no good).

Why would people be angry about missing out on that? (Other than people being dumb.)

but shaloren seem to have no problem with having a family/relationship, if anything there is a love story between grand corruptor from the mark of spellblaze and inquisitor from the rhaloren camp iirc the lore

in any way, people would rather consider that to be her quirk than the consequence of being immortal

imo there should be some explanation that she gave to her people like it was impossible for humans or something
also maybe it was that push that made some mages want to become necromancers

Maybe its the short lifespan that pushes some humans to be interested in magic?
