Stash?

#1 Post by Onomastikon »

Hello all, brand new here, am familiar with arpgs such as Diablo etc but new to roguelikes. Have no idea what I'm doing but so far level 7 and not dead yet. One thing confuses me greatly, and that is: in my town I can't find a personal stash. Is there none or am I missing the obvious?
Investing everything in strength just to carry stuff seems odd at best.

You'll find someplace later in the game (level 15-20+)
I write guides and make addons too now, apparently

You can go here for a compilation of everything I wrote, plus some other important stuff!

Includes general guides (inscriptions, zone, prodigies), and class guides (Demo, Anorithil, Bulwark, Zerker, Sblade)

Hey thanks. Is this normal for roguelikes? I had finished my first quest and ended up in this simple Dwarven town with many diverse shops but no one to talk to. Much different than all other arpgs I've seen - and I still haven't found a stash :(

There is no normal for Roguelikes. :P

Okay, there sort of is. But this is not a normal Roguelike.
Normally you would get access to a stash earlier. However, you won't find much before you unlock the stash that is worth stashing.

Three items -- really? After my initial shock, I read that donations increase stash capacity, and I had purchased the game and all expansions on gog for a small but significant sum. That this yields three items worth of storage seems like a slap in the face. My sympathy has sunken drastically.

I was also new to roguelikes when I found this game and here's what I'd tell you regarding your dashed expectations...

The nature of a roguelike is different from an RPG. You don't really need a stash because this isn't a game of collecting endless gear and items. You beat it almost without gear if you master the mechanics of any particular class and that's really what it's about. So go forth without expectation and have torturous fun.

This game'll kill you tons but the expectations... they'll ruin it for you. Just trust that it's a different kind of experience and try to enjoy it for what it is because it's pretty great.

iirc it's 2€ = 1 slots ? yeah, makes sense actually since steam is 6€ and you say 3 slots.

If it hasn't synced properly yet you might not be getting the right number of stash slots. Buying the base game alone should give ~3 slots.

I purchased the base game, all expansions and DLC from steam and donated once, now have 15 spaces in the shared stash. Keep in mind, you can leave unlimited amounts of items in your 'secret hideout' and they will not decay/disappear. The shared stash is for when you want to move items between separate characters.

Having a limited amount of spaces in that shared stash slows down the process because items typically require a 1 hour wait time before they can be retrieved from the stash. But you can keep on putting items for transfer in there and get them through eventually.

Just to add to previous replies (only Coldbringer provided a full explanation).
Vault space with limited slots is a "shared storage" type thing, used mainly to transfer gear to other characters. While it's normal in Diablo-likes it's borderline cheat in roguelikes, that's why it's a premium, optional option.
Unlimited "Stash" of sorts is like Coldbringer said - leaving items on the floor of Sher'tul Fortress storage area. Though in my 1000+ hours of playing Tome I have never once used it!
