Hi all! New to this and loving it!
Is there a reason for a character who only uses 2-handed weapons to use the alt-weapon slot?
Seems to take just as much game time to go into the inventory and wield another weapon as it does to press 'q'.
Obviously hitting 'q' is a more convenient for the player :-)
Any reason for alt weapon sets with 2-handed weapons?

There is a "quick weapon swap" property, I think only on Shantiz the Stormblade, that lets you swap to it without spending a turn. If you happen to find Shantiz it can be worth keeping in the alt set as in the right circumstance it's very powerful even if you don't have 1 handed weapon talents, on hit it destroys all nearby projectiles, exploding them for their own damage in an area of effect of 5. Groups of enemies firing high damage projectiles (i.e. orc ambush) can be completely obliterated by their own projectiles.
A small secondary use for a 2h user would be if you find a shield with a bunch of great wards or a good talent like Time Shield, it is faster to swap from the shield back to the 2h weapon (or vice-verca) by using the alt weapon set (except for Ogrewielding).

There are also mods you can put on weapons which, by default, stay with the slot, so if you had a Razor Edge on your two-hander and drag-and-dropped in a bow it would try to stick the Razor Edge on the bow (which I believe does nothing in that case). Many fewer clicks to just quickswap, and less chance of forgetting.
Blakemw’s point applies to any time you’re using an object in each hand, so if you wanted to alternate between a two hander and a pair of anything it’s faster by a turn to quickswap. Reasons for doing so include using 2 mindstars for their activated abilities (e.g. Nexus of the Way and Amethyst of Sanctuary) or dual-wielding steamguns.
Finally, some classes have the ability to use talents to free-switch to certain kind of weapons if you have them in your alt-slot. Possessors, for example, can switch to two-handers instantly as part of their Psychic Blows skills, dual-wielding as part of the Battle Psionics skills, and dual mindstars as part of Psionic Menace skills (N.B. don’t use Psionic Menace). While one obvious use is to flow back and forth between Battle Psionics and Psychic Blows loadouts, you can also pick just one of them and then use ranged weapons in your alternate slot, on the assumption that you’ll walk around with your ranged weapons, plink at enemies from a distance, and then when they get in range instant-swap to your melee tools. Once a combat is over and turn-usage is no longer an issue, switch back to range and reload.

You could switch between a physical damage 2hander and one with elemental damage for exploiting elemental weaknesses or bypassing the high armor between certain opponents or getting AOE. Like Blighted Maul and then Tirakai's Maul on switch.
Keep in mind there's a very cool prodigy, Swift Hands, that lets you do one free/instant weapon swap per turn that doesn't use up your turn. Also it can be used for other equipment, and items with activatable effects which then don't have the initial cooldown period they usually do.
