Since I switched to my new Mac laptop, I've noticed that a certain VFX has been causing the game to run very slowly. It's the fiery explosion effect used for the Gunslinger Combustive Bullets talent, and for the Star Shot on-hit effect. Whenever I (or another character) uses one of these, the game seems to pause for a moment, then moves forward very slowly, much like it does just when you've been hit with 6 different massive attacks and are about to be told you've died. (The similarity to how it looks when you die makes it a particularly psychologically troubling issue...)
Turning off all shaders eliminates the slowdown, as does playing on my work Mac desktop. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like turning off any of the shader categories is sufficient to get at whatever is causing the problem.
I would be particularly pleased to have this considered a bug and fixed in a newer version of ToME, but I can understand why it might not be, since it's only affecting a subset of graphics cards. Given that, I would be quite willing to put in the work required to delve into the game and adjust this one effect, either simply by editing the appropriate files in my installation, or by creating a tiny addon to override the standard values for it.
Unfortunately, while I am a programmer by trade, I don't know where to start looking for this, or which method would be likely to be more efficient and effective at fixing my problem.
Any assistance would be most appreciated.
