How do you beat Abashed Expanse

#1 Post by bpleshek »

I just unlocked the Archmage and I have died on 6 characters getting to the final boss of the area. He about 3 hits me if not worse. I can't manage to get him. Can someone help? Fortunately, it's at the beginning of the game, but it is getting frustrating.

Thanks,

Brian

1 start by playing on easy adventure. may up the difficulty once you get comfortable with its pattern.
2 dodge. pretty sure none of his attacks are instant, but they will hit you, if you are within... 3 tiles? the projectile simply traverses that distance before you get a chance to move.
3 keep distance. the further you are, the more time you have to dodge.
3.1 phase door is usefull, and in abashed it always has its lvl4 property, even if its only one lvl 1. unless rune, those are not affected.
4 make sure to have at least one beam. otherwise, the more damage you can dish out the better.
4.1 you DID start the fight with at least lvl 2 right? i am not entirely sure wheat lvl you can get before the fight.
4.2 spend ALL your points.

5. shields heals and mana surge are greate too. forget one, and you will be easily worn out.
shields are greate, if you aren't sure whether you get hit after your next atack, and let you fire for 3 or 4 turns stright, without worry.
heals, are greate if you DO get hit.
mana surge... heals are EXPENSIVE, and you need that mana flowing for your attacks.

Don't play offensive. Get yourself to a safe distance away (6-8 tiles away) and focus on dodging. Whenever you have a turn where you DON'T need to dodge (his projectiles are slow) throw a spell.

On most runs, I was able to clear all the other creatures best I could so I could fight him alone. Once, the portal put me right next to it, so I was hosed there.

Can't get shield because it's level 4. Highest level I think I got was 16% on 3 on one run and ~70% on level 2 on the other five runs. I didn't try to phase door during battle, I just tried to evade. So that is something that I can try. Except on one of the six runs, the thing was 5 or more tiles away from me, but seemed to launch 2-3 projectiles per turn or so it seemed.

I did spend most of my points before the battle. I think I did 4 magic and 2 con. Then fire and lightning rank 2. Think I might have had a point left over here, but wasn't sure yet what to take. I think I had all my generics because I was waiting for shielding to unlock at level 4.

Will try again on Normal. I'll go a few more tries and check back here if i'm not successful. Can I do the beginning part on easy and then up the difficulty mid game?

when i said shield, i meant a rune. you don't start with shield rune? it was a while since i played.
i am pretty sure you are supposed to start with either phase door and shield rune, or regen and wild infusions, depending on race.
am i mistaken there?

Finally beat it. Then killed off that character in the shimmering mines(or glittering). Restarted the same character about 5 times now able to beat Abashed Expanse and the character is now level 9. Not sure i'm going to come close to 1M fire damage by level 20 when my guide(i'm a noob) says I should put talent points into WildFire. I've only gotten about 65k/1M @level 9.

Radon. You were right, I did start with a shield rune.

Thanks again,

Its tricky, but it is well worth the practice.

To unlock Wildfire, you don't need to do 1 mil damage with one character. Your progress on the unlock is saved between runs. Once you do unlock it, it's forever avaliable to any archmage with a category point to spare.

Personally, I strongly recommend running a Fire-element Alchemist to unlock Wildfire. That's how I did it, anyway—I was even able to unlock Uttercold or whatever the other one is on the same Alchemist run.
