Final fight - how do you win this? *some spoilers*

#1 Post by Coldbringer »

So decided instead of making more alts to finally go for it and try to win the game. Had a ghoul Doombringer with several lives left on Normal who was crushing everything, had great gear. I breezed through the game with him. Only problem was, he was the first to reach the desert oasis and volcano zone where you are supposed to stop the 2 sorcerers from charging the staff. I didn't understand what to do at first and was fighting the orcs coming in from the north, so I was too late to stop them. Apparently this makes the final boss fight much harder???

Well, got up there on High Peak at level 50. I started fighting them, spared sun paladin woman. She died in about 10 turns. I went to fearscape one of them, got him down to about 70%. He seemed to be immune to all mental/gloom effects so I switched weapons. At this point I was pretty much out of Vim and getting hit with so many status effects I couldn't keep up. I had 2 full clears of negative status on cooldown, all heals and shields on cooldown, trying to use the structure in the middle to Line Of Sight hide from them to buy some time. Couldn't do it, got blasted to death.

So is there some trick to this Im not realizing? They use such a variety of spells it seems torques and wards won't be helpful. Amusingly, Spellhunt Remnant gloves dropped earlier in High Peak, at level 5 to start no less. I thought about using them but I'd have to spend a turn taking them off or risk all my skills getting disrupted. Going to go through my equipment and get as many immunities as possible raised, trade offense for survivability. Also have Slime Pillar item, but that silences me for 5 turns (not sure if it checks immunity) or if it will help vs them.

Any tips?

Fearscape tends to not be that great in combat imo, it drains so much vim. It's mostly useful for escaping a group of enemies so your cooldowns can come back up. When I beat the game with a Shalore Doombringer I just obliterated the mage guy with reckless strike and then took on the reaver with the rest of my talents.

I think cttw was suggesting a strategy for when an NPC fearscapes you, actually.

Well I did a little better the next try. Spellhunt Remnants took off a bunch of their long list of Sustains. Then I died and came back and did it again to get them down to just a few. Tried to manage my vim better and equipped status immunity gear.

I just could not do enough damage fast enough, and they were doing so much to me I couldn't recover quickly enough. Had reckless strike maxed, demon form, resistance penetration, tier 5 weapons, +7 wards, 500 phys reduction torque, an offhand setup with Temporal Shield, most immunities high or maxed... Was not enough.

This is good learning experience, now I can build a better Doombringer next time, seems Ghoul was really sub optimal because of the low speed and meh racials, not having access to nature infusions. I did good as a first try for this class and a new player when I started it.

Every new character I make from now on I will build them in preparation for this fight, because the rest of the game is childs play by comparison.

I'm thinking up new strategies... invisibility rune, run to other side of room, get cooldowns back, heal, restart fight, repeat? Or movement infusion rune? Then funnel them both around the middle structure so you can fight one at a time and 1 LOSes the other
