the only problem with retribution, is that you can't trigger it yourself, you have to let the enemies do it. but in the meanwhile, it HALVES the damage you take, meaning it is still really effective against bosses.

i wouldn't call it a "problem" its just that why exactly should i pick it?
as i said, there are already other categories that have those. if you want to be fancy and go without either of the guardian or crusader, then you need something that would fill the role. but normally, there is nothing outstanding in this talent that would make me pick it over the others.
especially not JUST for that.
as i pointed out earlier, light is not a problem at all.
as some else pointed out, the daze is removed by the very talent that apply it.
and with diminishing returns to top it off, in the later game the raw power/save difference shrinks.

"all actors affected by illumination are easier to see and therefore hit; their defense is reduced by %d and all evasion bonuses from being unseen are negated."

from being unseen, makes sense, but why it would reduce defence I dont get. if you can see the enemy in a normally lit room, making them glow is not going to reduce their defense one bit, let alone enough to remove the benefits of a pile of armor.

so, if that was removed, this tree would suffer and need some other things added to it.

Let's assume dungeons are poorly lit.

Also magic. It's magic. The effect is caused by magic. The glow actually does reduce the effect of a pile of plate armor. Have you ever had a search light pointed directly into your eyes? It's like that, except directly into the equivalent of a soul. This stuff isn't so much "causes glowing" as "omnidirectional celestial laser to the face". Stuff next to the sun doesn't just become "bright". It's scoured. Illumination is just step two in a three step process, just before the light gets bright enough to physically strip the flesh from your bones and inflict sporadic and vicious radiation sickness. It lowers defense, y'ken?

To be fair, the light does end up doing damage once enough points are put into the tree. That's some damn powerful light.

blinding light, then: if it is strong enough to burn, you have your eyes shut tight or they'd be blinded right away anyway.
