Where should I buy the game - steam or official website?

#1 Post by frostnuggets »

Hey there, folks.
I am sorry for making a dumb question, but hey: where should I buy the game? I mean, is there any difference between downloading it from the official site (and donating for DLC and etc) and buying it from Steam or some other place? And is it sold somewhere other than those 2 places?

Excuse me for my newbieness. I just want to make sure I bought it at the "better" place xD
Thanks in advance for your attention :)

Id imagine buying it from their website would give them the full amount opposed to steam taking a cut.

Yeah, I was indeed thinking about buying it from the official website to fully support the developer. I just want to make sure there are no differences between the 2 versions (other than steam taking its share of gold pieces) xD
Btw, steam seems to charge for the base-game, which can be downloaded for free. Dafuq?
Edit:
Thanks for your answer, btw :)

Personally, I had a lot of trouble getting the updated from the main site working consistently. Steam handles that automatically, as well as any add-ons that people have put on the Steam Workshop. Aside from that, you also get achievements on Steam, if that's your thing, and you may be able to get it on sale. You can sync saves to the cloud using Steam, but it's disabled by default because it can cause a lot of really nasty problems. No idea when that might change.

Also, obviously, buying from steam gives donator properties.

Does syncing works properly if bought from the official website? And I am able to install addons with the Steam version, right? Aaaaand will I get the vault slots if I buy it through steam (because the price in steam varies between contries. Thus, it costs less than 6 euros here)? The thing is: buying from Steam on a sale would be cheaper for me due to currency value changes and stuff like this. Tough I am pretty bad at making decisions, so I need players to confirm stuff like this, about having the best-working version and etc. Sorry for all those questions, btw. I hope you don't mind it much.

It all works the same regardless of purchase location.

There is no syncing system on the main website. Backing up saves is easy with dropbox, though, if you have the space. I believe the number of vault slots is the same, even if you buy it from Steam on sale (can someone confirm? I'm pretty sure I got the same number of slots even getting it on sale). Vault slots really aren't a big deal, though. If anything, I have worse runs when I try to trick out a character and get overconfident.

Hey there :)
Sorry for taking so long to reply here.
Thank you all for your kind answers :> guess I will be buying it through Steam, then. Syncing and better marketing for the developer, I guess. Btw, in case DarkGod gets to read this: your game is great and you should feel great, lol. Byebye, hours and hours of my life
